what i eat part 1.

after sharing that i had lost 30 pounds i received several emails from friends and strangers alike asking me to share how i did it. let me start by saying that i am not a nutritionist, but this is what has worked for me. sam and i both stick to these basic guidelines.

the first step in switching to a whole foods diet is detoxing. go ahead and clean out your pantries. rid yourself of any temptations.

for the first two weeks you will want to cut out: sugar, artificial sweeteners (see ya diet coke), alcohol, fruit (don't worry it will be coming back), bread, processed foods.

make sure to drink a ton of water and eat lots of vegetables and protein, dairy is great too. my favorite breakfast is fage yogurt with peanutbutter and cinnamon.

a typical breakfast would be an omelette, a typical lunch would be a salad with grilled chicken, and a typical dinner would be a turkey burger and green beans.

snack on raw nuts. make sure you are never hungry and eat until you are full.

don't worry about a thing and just eat really clean, organic when possible. be prepared to be cranky from the sugar withdrawals. you will lost up to 10 pounds the first two weeks. here's to making goals!

Way to got! I would say one thing that has helped me is drinking tons of water with a bit of lemon, so refreshing and tasty. Again, you rock! xo

I'm so excited to hear more about your journey. This sounds similar to the the beginning phase of the South Beach diet. My husband and I stuck to that way of living for two years before we were married and lost approximately 50 lbs each!

Unfortunately, with the stress of planning the wedding, and some other not so fun life things, we sort of slipped off track. We are both working again to get our eating habits in line and kick off this extra weight. Reading this is so inspiring and gives me that additional confidence to just keep going. Thanks so much for sharing!

krista, it is similar to the south beach diet, but with more emphasis on wellness. nothing artificial is encouraged to combat sugar cravings. there are so many things in life that can get in the way of eating healthy, but once you start it is addictive and you feel so much better!

Thank you so much for making yourself vulnerable and sharing! I have been wondering the more specifics of your healthy journey, and I guess pride kept me from asking, ha! I am trying to get off the last of the baby weight, #4, and this is inspiring to me. So I'm curious, is diet coke introduced later too like fruit? Ha! I love my diet coke, sad I know!

Well, I feel like the perfect time to make the jump is in a couple of weeks when we make the big move...thank you for the tips! Every once in awhile, if you could share some dinner recipes, that would be so helpful...the hardest part is going to be saying "bye bye" to my dear Diet Dr. Pepper. But I can do it! James and I drink way too much of that stuff... you look fantastic, and are such an inspiration! xoxo

I remember when we met, and you told me how your life had improved after refining your diet and eating more complete foods.
It is a simple concept: the idea of mentally, physically, and emotionally reaping the benefits of what you put into your body.
I hope the concept continues to catch on, like wildfire, till our children and grandchildren are tending their own gardens, and wondering how in the world people once lived on prepackaged foods with a multitude of unrecognizable ingredients.
I look forward to hearing about your progress!
