sugar challenge

image found here.

in honor of breast cancer awareness month and my dear friends who are fighting cancer, i will be giving up sugar for the month of october. in case you didn't know, the over fermentation of sugar in the body is the largest known cause of cancer. read more here and here. it's not an easy thing for me to give up treats (fruit will still be on the menu) for a whole month, but making a stand against a cancer is well worth my small sacrifice. instead of picking up pink m&ms for the cause, ditch the culprit and help make a real difference. show others the importance of what we eat and how it affects our bodies. would you like to join me? if so, leave a comment and we can encourage each other. i promise not to post anything sweet + delicious until the challenge is over. the fun part is the challenge ends on halloween, so you can reward yourself with some dark chocolate!

*randomly, i had two people this week tell me that they had tried the detox plan. i didn't even know they read my blog so that was really cool.

  1. Great idea. I read your post that you linked about the way we are killing ourselves with poor diets...the most tragic thing is, like you said, people dont even realize what the FOOD is doing to them. My mother died of breast cancer, and I certainly dont want my children to go through that. God is in control of my life, but I need to do everything I can to take care of this body He gave me.

  2. I was gonna say, um, Lesley? You are giving up sweets for the month that contains Halloween?? Hopefully you at least have the sense to start tomorrow so that you can end a day early (in time for Halloween). :)

I wish I liked dark chocolate. But I'm so not into it. And yesterday I ate an entire bag of gummy bears AND two york peppermint patties.

  3. I can't promise to give up sugar for the entire month but I promise to be more conscious of it and help encourage you :)

You certainly have inspired me to eat more healthy this year and I'm now only 5 lbs away from my Weight Watchers goal!!! (I've lost a total of 15 lbs in 2011 : )

    Be gone breast cancer!

  4. claire sounds like me... minus the dark chocolate thing. i could eat that all day.

doing the detox has helped though- i followed your meal plan almost to a t that you had posted a couple weeks ago, but it was harder this time than the last time. oh, and the tarragon green bean salad- i could've eaten the entire bowl in one sitting!
