Alternative Christmas Lights

I love re purposing, taking an object that is so well ingrained as one thing and turning it in to another. Take for instance Christmas lights, known for trimming the tree and decorating our homes. Here are some other ideas from Apartment Therapy:

Brilliant and beautiful. These branches are transformed with shiny balls and ambient light.

These tube lights look like a modern art installation. Love the bathroom placement.

Can't afford a new light fixture? Disguise it with layers of lights. Delightful.

A little canvas and lights peeping through goes a long way.

My fave. A modern take on the Christmas tree. The only problem is you don't get that wonderful smell.

Cheers!

It's beginning to look a little more like Christmas

Like I promised, Sam and I got our tree yesterday. A perfectly proportioned tree that my Sam personally picked out. We started the morning as always with a big breakfast and a dose of CBS Sunday Morning and then we headed out in to the freezing cold to work on the outside. Sam gracefully trimmed back the dead plants and tidied up the porch. We threw out our lingering pumpkins and got to work on the decorations. We picked out these swag lights last Christmas and I was so excited to put them up. We had a little trouble figuring out how they worked...

Then we headed over to Mom and Dad's and I stayed with Mom, Rach, and Tilda while we put the boys in charge of picking out the trees.

{I love this picture of Jake}

After a delightful family lunch, which included doritos and oreos (sticking to my diet you see) we went to take care of the final details. We trimmed the tree and our house.

It's beginning to look a little like Christmas

I don't want to brag, but my husband is one sweet thang. He surprised me on his lunch break with stopping by to get the Christmas decorations down from the attic. I was antsy to deck the halls! He knows I have a major fear of attic ladders, and was afraid for my safety when I called him and asked him how to get the stairs down. Don't laugh, it's true. We got a kiss each and then he was off. I got a few things done, and we are getting our tree on Sunday. Can't wait!
