Heirlooms: Vintage Children's Books

Sam and I are both fortunate enough to have two lovely mothers who saved stacks of our favorite childhood books. His mostly Dr Seuss, mine mostly Angelina Ballerina. We also have several Little Golden Books, which I adore! I am really starting to read to Matilda (at least one book a day). She kicks and shrieks when I plop down with her and a book. It warms my soul. This week one of the books we read was Horton Hatches the Egg. I had never read it before. It's the sweetest book! It teaches kids to honor their word, that good deeds don't go unnoticed, and that flying elephants really do exist!

Collecting: Canning Jars

Some people collect diamonds, I collect old jars! I love them. I thought this was a fun way to display them. Vintage glass has such personality and the lids are fun too. One of my favorites is an old mustard jar that says Spread a Little Sunshine. How cute?!

There is definitely an art, but I do it just for fun. A lot of people collect the Ball mason jars. Here is a tiny history lesson:

The Ball jar is one of the original canning jars, dating back to 1884. The Ball brothers developed the first semi-automatic glass jar making machine. You can read more of the history here.
