Movie Recommendation:The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

This morning while feeding and soothing and rocking and eating I watched the amazing french film directed by Julian Schnabel, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (Scaphandre et le papillon). The film is based on a true story of the french editor of Elle, Jean-Dominque Bauby, and the novel he wrote after he had a stroke. His only method of communication is blinking one eye. He is fully aware of his surroundings, but is paralyzed and has a rare disorder called "locked-in syndrome." He says he still has "his imagination and memories" and he blinks at a translator to get his words on paper. The film is visually beautiful and amazingly touching. Please rent it.

i always make a list right after Oscar season of all the movies I want to catch up on. This one was at the top of my list last year, after hearing of all it's nominations. It was beautiful and sad, just my style.
...loved it.
