Ooh so jealous! Maui is gorgeous and super romantic, but some of the small islands are fabulous, too. I would spend only a little time on Oahu in Waikki if I were you - it's overpopulated, which is so not what Hawaii is supposed to be like! Oh yeah, and eat lots and lots of pineapple. Duh.
Maui was wonderful, beautiful, kind of small townish, especially when compared to oahu (we flew over for one day, so not worth the stress). We stayed at Kanapali something,...If you end up in Maui, eat at the Gazebo for breakfast one moring, well worth the wait! Skip Cheeseburger in Paradise unless you just have to try it, poor customer service, and certailny not exceptional food.
We went just after Landon turned one, all three of us, it was really wonderful, even with kids, although expensive. We've agreed not to go back for quite some time for that reason!!
we have been to maui twice. it is the most beautiful place ever. we stayed at the whaler in kaanapali. the rooms are like condos with kitchens so you can go to the grocery store and cook some of your own meals to save a little money. march is the perfect time to go, too, because it's humpback whale mating season. you can see whales from the beach, go on a whale watching boat, or just a quick little khyaking trip off the beach and get so close. kaanapali has little shuttles and buses to other parts of the island, too, so you don't even really need to rent a car. and like "beyond blessed" mentioned, eat at the gazebo for breakfast! the hyatt also has an awesome huge delicious breakfast buffet. here are some pics!
I've been! It was literally 11 years ago when I was 15 years old though, so I don't have any recommendations. I loved the clear water though. So amazing. It really is a beautiful place.
Oh my gosh, I am so jealous! My husband and I honeymooned in Hawaii, and it truly is magnificent!
We spent 3 days on Oahu (which was plenty to see the touristy things like Pearl Harbor, Diamondhead, and Waikiki) Then we spent a week on Kauai at Poipu Beach (on the south coast of Kauai). It was fantastic.
Those are the only islands I've been to, but I hear Maui is also wonderful and the north shore of Kauai looks gorgeous.
Hope that helps. Really, I don't think you can go wrong in Hawaii, so don't stress over it too much! The whole place is beautiful and romantic!
