rest

when it comes to taking it easy... i suck at it. honestly, resting at all is just not my forte. my brain is constantly going a million miles an hour. however, lately i've been more and more aware of how fleeting our time is on this earth and how fast matilda is growing up. look how big she looks lying down with sam! be still my heart. my attention keeps perking up at the idea of rest. in fact, the sermon on sunday focused on the topic of sabbatical. we are called to take a mini sabbatical every day with sunday being the sabbath (1. a day of religious observance and abstinence from work).

recently i watched a TED talk with one of my favorite yogis eoin finn on hammock enlightment. you should have a listen too. eoin discusses the importance of having nature and quiet be a part of each day. quiet contemplation to hear what your heart is saying.

it is so easy to get caught up in busyness. sometimes i feel so overwhelmed by everything that i need to do, but God has been restoring me in my quiet times. i've almost finished a whole book. i know.

our church is very big on keeping the sabbath day holy, and I decided early in my blue-eyed freckle career to not ever do business on sundays. no matter what. let me tell you, there are times when it was very tempting, but having that one day of the week where I KNOW I don't have to work, and I really get to do nice things for myself, rest, and spend time with family??? It really does make sundays special, and it rejuvenates me for mondays!

I couldn't agree more!

I find that the most difficult part of my yoga practice is most always savasana. Being able to quiet your mind in this busy world takes a lot of discipline.

Thanks for the reminder that we need to practice it a little each day.

amy- savasana! i feel you big time. "i should be sewing, doing laundry, blah blah." but in yoga they say that savasana is just as important to your practice as doing an entire session of yoga. it's like a reset button.
hope you had a blast at the beach!

I get caught up in the busyness sometimes too. God knew we needed to rest in this life - thankful for Sundays!

I need to take this to heart. Seriously. Sometimes I do on Saturday mornings/afternoons--sleep in, slowly drink coffee, watch tv. :) Those are such wonderful mornings. But my brain doesn't stop either, and it's hard not to be stressed.

Matilda is getting so big. Cannot wait to see her in July.

oh, i totally understand. it's so hard to just take a few moments for ourselves. we get so caught up in doing + going. i've recently been feeling burnt out & realizing that it's okay (and seriously necessary) to just slooooow down.
