under the weather-ether-ether ay ay

for the first time in about two years i have been sick. can't get out of bed sick. i am feeling a million times better today thanks to lots of tlc from sam and mama. not only did mom take care of matilda yesterday, but she sent sam home with garlic bread, salad, the world's best chicken pot pie, and apple pie. i swear that's why i feel better. i also got a sweet knock on the door from christy with brownies and chocolate covered pretzels in tow. couldn't ask for better neighbors. thank you so much.

all this to say that with a lingering cold and the rain outside my window, i'm craving all things cozy.

I love this rosemont sweater.

to go along with my favorite peppermint tea.

nothing beats curling up with a good book...makes me think of grammy and mama lou.

i'm currently reading this, on loan from this lovely lady.

now...another piece of pie?

lick your own bowl

i blame it on watching my favorite movie...

octoberrrr

well, it was pretty chilly, but it's warm again. typical georgia weather. we've been particularly busy these days, hardly a moment to sit still. matilda has been getting more teeth and drooling like a mad-baby. she also learned how to stand up in her crib, but can't get back down. it makes me realize how dependent we are on our parents. i still am. i don't know what sam and i would do without my parents.

the inspiration for my garden...always. i love this little community near our neighborhood. it is so beautiful. reminds me of europe. i need to travel. neeeed it.

i took matilda to the park for the second time. she loved the swing! she laughed every time i pushed her. i love this little girl.

a tiny hat for a little friend. birthdays all around!

persona series

jason travis, a local photographer/designer/etc and so forth (he's super creative) has put together i think one of the greatest photo series ever. the persona series is a diptych series which features a portrait and coinciding bag with its belongings.
great for anyone with voyeur tendencies. i mean, who isn't interested in seeing what other people find important enough to carry around? several of these little gems will be featured in the atlantan.

they did it!

what an amazing wedding. it was such a huge honor to be a part of kate and andy's wedding day. i could go on and on about how beautiful, sweet, fun, and wonderful the entire weekend was. everything from the big white balloons to the delicious food, to the amazing dancing. it was an absolute blast!

i can't wait to see the pictures...seriously. scott, adam, and cristen were just the nicest, calmest, people to work with.

see sam's pictures here.

the rehearsal and dinner were equally lovely. we had the yummiest dinner at mary mac's tea house on ponce. i always thought it was this teeny tiny place and it was huge. the food was to die for. i always love experiencing people's first bites of fried green tomatoes. i couldn't live anywhere else.

see the rest here

there's nothing as special as a wedding. a room full of people who share the same love and commitment for the bride and groom. it's palpable.

congrats again kate and andy!

boo

matilda's first night out with logan resulted in this picture. sam ran up to show me this at the reception and i was overjoyed to see how much fun our little girl was having with the best friends we could have. thanks a million jess and trav (and sharon, kirk, and barb!)

adventures in shopping

last night in a rare opportunity, i went shopping with sister and mama. i was so excited to a) have a girls night b) spend some money getting some retail therapy c) enjoy an evening of no one needing anything from me. we were on borrowed time so we went to the avenues because it's close and not a mall.

i had been desperate to see jcrew's fall line in the flesh. their styling right now is quite simply...perfect. however, having curves and not fitting in the waif-like, model mold left me with disappointing results.

i did find some really great jeans, which some would say was a major achievement. they have just the right amount of stretch and a great wash.

i also love the jewels. love them.

it was downhill from there. we went to the loft, banana, the gap. same.same.same. it was so sad. i wanted to blow some bucks, but i couldn't even settle on anything.

i want her wardrobe. gimme.

and these shoes.

super

this morning i had one of those harried mom mornings. you know, the ones where you are doing a million things at once and everything and everyone comes first and it's five til the time you're supposed to leave and you're still in your bath robe. yea, one of those. but, feeling very proud of myself, i managed to get me and matilda bathed, two batches of muffins baked, both of us dressed and fed, and we were out the door (albeit 15 minutes late) with coffee in tow thanks to sam.

where were we heading?

to celebrate logan "officially" becoming a xayaseng, although he's felt very official since he was brought in to all of our lives in december. unfortunately a lot of red tape, paperwork, and fees have to be tied up. done and done. i'm so proud of them.

beth threw the sweetest fete in logan's honor. very emotional and beautiful brunch.

{flickr}

hope you had a great weekend. we started the week a little on the rainy side, but the air is cooling down which makes me soooo happy. you know what else makes me happy? this girl is getting married saturday.

we celebrated kate's bachelorette party this past weekend and it was a good time. see for yourself.

some highlights.

the "stripper" was a good time. note the woman taking a picture on her phone. haha. he was actually a very charming friend of lane's that agreed to add a little humor to the evening by pretending to be a male stripper.

parmesan fries at jct kitchen. get in my mouth.

we were a good time.

for jodi

my dear, dear friend jodi is moving. away. far away. although i hate that we won't see each other as often i know that we have a lot to look forward to. jodi is just the kind of friend we all want and i treasure her.

then:

and now:

in honor of jodi's move i made a little georgia loves jodi scrapbook.

1. take 2 pieces of cardboard. i wanted mine long and narrow to leave room for writing little notes. mine is 10x5

hi toes.

2.cut fabric slightly larger and wrap around cardboard like you would a present. i used good ole mod podge to secure.

3. use heavy paper (like scrapbooking paper) and cut a 9x4 piece to cover the cardboard on both sides.

4. cut out same size as cardboard to make the pages.

5. punch holes in each and secure with ribbon. viola!

i added a little envelope to hold a cd for her travels.

au revoir sweet friend!

S is for

sippy cup. our pediatrician said to say adios to the bottle. what? i feel like matilda is still a baby and i keep getting these "your toddler" emails and then i'm told to take her bottle away. why is everyone trying to make her grow up so fast? after several days of fits, she relinquished and gave in to the sippy cup. she won't give it to herself yet, my baby still needs me.

sleep. matilda's sleeping patterns have started to change. apparently this change is normal. she isn't tired. ever. a lot of friends (thank God for social networking and endless solutions) suggested dropping her morning nap. she still seems so tired, so i put her down and then the afternoon nap drops. say what? will keep plowing forward.

camera strap cover

i made a camera strap cover for my strap. i used craft-fuse to add some stiffness.

i used tweed on one side (so sam won't be embarrassed when he's shooting) and a fun polka dot print on the other side. autumnal, no?

first weekend in october

i've realized my last few entries were pretty much only pictures, no words. so what have we been up to? perhaps more than we should be. i might just collapse tonight, but it's good tired...great tired. i got to spend a significant amount with friends and family this weekend. what else can a girl ask for?

friday night was taqueria del sol on cheshire bridge. if you haven't tried taqueria, there's a problem, but i hadn't been to this location before and i have to say i prefer the larger space and more adequate seating. it was an absolute pleasure to see margot, her sister molly, their wonderful friends, rachel, and my fastly fleeting jodi. have i mentioned she's moving away? probably not, because i pretend it's not happening.

saturday was a family walk to the square (i think i pulled my groin) to visit our favorite deli and then i made a camera strap cover. later. saturday night was an impromptu celebration of dear erin's birth and karina's last minute trip up. the stars were aligned. we started the night at krog bar. i loved krog bar, it's this teeny tiny wine and tapas bar owned by kevin rathbun. the small plates were simple and fresh and the wine selection was stellar. can i have a glass of veuve now please? then we walked through the krog tunnel to estoria. i had the most amazing turkey burger there. good grief. such a fun time, my sweet husband was on dad duty giving me a nice night out.

see the rest here.

today was so great. really great. i had been looking forward to the field of greens festival all week. i was extremely excited about seeing kevin gillespie, my absolute favorite contender on top chef.
i was so excited to be able to support local farmers who had been affected by the floods and to try all of the amazing food. there was such a great energy, lots of cute animals, and a bbq cook off. it was pretty much perfect. ok, i think that's all i'll write this week. if you read this- thank you, for caring, for loving us, and for reading this little blog.
