under pressure.

my little gardener/ all i've wanted to do since wednesday

good morning! hope you all had a cheery weekend where you didn't stress out yourself and everyone around you trying to get a massive to-do list checked off. oh wait, that's just me. this weekend was stunningly perfect and i was fortunate enough to be able to spend it with my family. we tried to start a million projects, thus they are all still a work-in-progress. i am not usually a diy-er but i'm excited to share a weekend makeover with you guys . it's not quite done yet, so that will have to wait. oh the suspense!

here's the thing. i am an allergy sufferer. big time friends. it kills me because i only have problems during the spring when my gardener soul is longing to be outside. i started feeling bad last week and finally got some of this to help me breathe and keep me from sneezing all over people. i feel guilty about this because i'm trying to live naturally and not rely on any medicines and then i go and spend $30 on neon green allergy pills. i looked up natural alternatives and it seems pretty bleak. netipot every night? it feels like water torture.
any words of wisdom?

a couple of things to share...

fun fact: did you know hydrangeas are super easy to propagate? i stuck a bunch of dried hydrangeas in my winter planter arrangement. i was inspired by this. as i was tidying up my beds over the weekend i went to pull them out and they had rooted! i was so excited. i did absolutely nothing!

faq: "when you're cooking with coconut oil, does it make everything taste like coconut?"

coconut oil does have a very subtle flavor. i actually really like the flavor, but it you spice your food well you won't even notice it. i don't like using coconut oil with eggs. for eggs i cook them with raw butter. reason being that butter and coconut oil can handle high temperatures, unlike olive oil which becomes unstable.

ps i am soooo excited about the bachelor finale. my vote is on emily. care to wager?

the netipot gets easier the more you do it, in my experience. I actually really enjoy it now. Is that strange? It's kind of soothing, with the warm water. That being said, I have no idea how it works for allergy relief. I've only used it for colds. I wouldn't feel bad about taking meds for allergies, they are so hard to live with.

Leslie, just wanted to say Thanks for all these posts on healthy living! A lot of it is information I may have come across in the last 6 years (when my healthy journey started, babies change ya), and hold as ideals. I've been so refreshed and inspired to do what I know is right for my body! You look amazing and I cant wait to come back and read the costa rica posts, looks awesome!

I've been using the netipot every night since allergy season started up again this year. It definitely has allowed me to cut back on my insane Kleenex use, but other than that not much else. Unfortunately I don't have just a one season problem. My allergist actually told me I'd be better off living in a bubble! But, that being said, I have friends who swear by chiropractic adjustments in conjunction with a 30-60 day natural immunity boost. Meaning, if you suffer for 30-60 days you'll gain natural immunity, and the adjustments supposedly boost that and strengthen the immune system. I am a fan of the adjustments from a general whole health angle (every nerve ending in your body is connected to your spine, and if it's aligned properly one would think things would work better) But as a fellow allergy sufferer who doesn't want to miss one bit of spring, give up the dream and get some Zyrtec. :)

good luck trying to find a natural remedy. i think i've tried everything and the only things that bring some relief are: benadryl, claritin d, prescription steroid nasal spray, neti pot (every night even if you don't like it), zyrtec.
yuck, i know.
when i got my allergy testing done recently, my pollen, grass and weed allergies were off the charts so i feel your pain. exercise helps too, as you know. good luck friend. we suffer together!

Oh man I love the neti pot! I have the naso pure plastic bottle one and I love the way I feel right after I use it. :) I'm dealing with this exact same thing right now--itchy, runny nose and foggy head and UGH.

I was worried about the coconut thing but I've never noticed any flavor at all. Then again, I use lots of spices in everything I cook.

Matilda has a Debbie look in that picture! I can just see her flitting her eyes and saying "Oh!" heehee

So exciting to hear about your hydrangeas! Sadly, I think I lost a couple of my hydrangea plants this winter. There are no buds on them and the limbs are extra brittle and dry. All the others are budding, so I'm thinking these two bit the dust. :-(

And my vote is for Emily too. Not 100% sure he deserves her, but how can you not be rooting for her?

I love the netti pot, but I think it doesn't really work that well for allergies ( I use it for colds and sinuses) and zyrtec DOES work. I have also read that you don't want to use the nettie pot for more than 2 straight weeks because... something to do with your nose's natural state, or something I can't remember exactly. but the point was to not over do it... anyway, don't feel bad. I hate taking medications, but with allergies its ridiculous to be miserable the entire spring!

So sorry about the allergies. I have them too and it is such a pain!

I still take meds as well, but the chiropractor really has helped them be less severe or at least that's what I think it is. I didn't change anything else, but start going a couple of years ago and last yr for the first time, I really had a bearable spring in GA.

Take care

Sorry about your allergies! I eventually "outgrew" mine so maybe there's hope :)

Just planted a hydrangea in my yard today that was propagated from my sister's yard. Really hoping it makes it.

I'm a huge fan of "sniffing salt water!" I just use the palm of my hand and it works wonders!!! A little creepy at first but so worth it.

Good Luck!
