our favorite green smoothie

place ingredients in order in to a high speed blender. i always quarter the apple, but the rest i just throw in. the spiciness of the ginger is in your hands. i usually just slice off a chunk and throw it in. i love it.

i have tried a million variations of this green smoothie. this one wins. hands down. there have been a couple i couldn't get down. i crushed this bad boy.

green smoothies are a great way to sneak vegetables in to little ones (or big ones for that matter). there are amazing health benefits from each ingredient in this smoothie:

water. nuff said.
kale - loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory
banana - potassium, healthy digestion, lowers blood pressure
granny smith apple - full of fiber, cardiovascular benefits, granny smith have a lower glycemic index than other apples
raw honey - alkalizes, provides energy, counteracts indigestion
ginger - cancer fighting, aids relieving menstrual cramping. helps ease nausea, heart burn, migrains, and more

green smoothies are a perfect breakfast. this drink will give you an energy boost when you need it most. be sure and make plenty of slime jokes in the morning, laughing is good for you.

I love how you did the pictures/ingredients! And Matilda looks darling, as usual. Impressive that she'll drink it. We have tried these with Milo; when he sees anything green, he says "I don't like it."

I'll try this next! Thanks for the recipe!

About how big is a bunch of kale where you shop? I know it grinds down quite a bit but I don't think I could possibly get an entire bunch into my blender (probably 6-8 really big leafy stems - don't quite fit into the clear produce bags)

hi there! yes i do use about 6-8 stems of the kale. you could always just break them in half. they grind way, way down. good luck!

love it!
green smoothies are the bomb, and I'm happy for the idea of throwing an apple in there.

my favorite right now has blueberries and bee pollen and mint.

After a week in Jamaica, this smoothie is EXACTLY what I need to detox my poor liver, calm my stomach, and rebuild my broken down temple! It is deeeelish too.
Thanks!

lesley, thank you for posting this! I have tried the green monster movement and actually liked it the first two times but felt like it was missing something...

i'm really excited to try this one out because it sounds delicious! and from the ingredients (and the fact that your darling girl is drinking it by choice ha) it sounds like the winner! it's the start of the new year and eating healthier is always at the forefront of my resolution list. I'm glad i found this recipe because i even showed it to my husband and he thought it looked good (wow right?).

i went back through your blog posts and was excited to "book mark" other recipes (like your zucchini pasta!) and i just want to say THANK YOU! i hope that on your new blog you continue to share your recipes (along with your beautiful family life!) because a girl in texas (who's learning her way in the kitchen) is going to roll up her sleeves and try them.

xo

ps. i'm a blog friend turned real life friend of claire's :) and she's always said such sweet things about you!

also, i hope you don't mind that i used your smoothie recipe photo with a link to your blog on my new years post? http://dolcevitamicaela.blogspot.com/2012/01/wanting-to-know-you-wens.html

let me know if you have a problem with it and please forgive my rambling. ;)
