sew!

good morning! how was your weekend? we had the best sunday. it included church (kris is back hooray), sewing, ice cream with my dad and a lovely grilled dinner courtesy of my fine husband. we have been consuming far too much sugar so no mas until next weekend at least.

this tiny fete dress was created for one of my favorite little girls, willow. thus, i have dubbed it the willow dress (the creativity just doesn't stop around here). i want to name my dresses after babes they were created for. fun, no? willow loves pirates so it was imperative that the pirate ship be represented. because the body fabric has so much shazam we opted for pockets to keep the fabrics from competing too much. i also lined the pockets with a fuchsia and white striped fabric. they are curved and deep to hold whatever trinkets are necessary for the day. whatcha think?

i want to sew, sew, sew this week. also, my brother will be in town straight from a montana farm. can't wait to see him!

if you live in marietta you are probably as excited as i am that this restaurant is opening today. let's go out and support good food.

some recent inspiration for some fall designs for tiny fete.

i've had a little bit of blogger's block this week, but i've been feeling extra inspired to sew (yay!). i love all of these looks. on top of looking for fantastic, creative kids clothes i've been on the hunt for ideas for matilda's third birthday party (what?) and i'm extra excited about redoing her room. we've been potty training (eek-stickers were purchased today for motivation), talking about giving away her pacifier (i know, i know) and will be moving her in to a twin soon. totally open to tricks + tips for all of the above.

apron dress

dress: tiny fete / shoes: morgan and milo

over the weekend i worked on a custom order for a little girl's second birthday. the party theme is hello kitty and rainbows (best theme ever!). they're going to be doing arts and crafts so an apron dress was requested. i have never made one before but after looking at a dozen different kinds and wanting to come up with my own... here it is! i wanted this dress to be girly and fun. i added bias tape around the arms and flutter sleeves in a complimentary fabric. the ruffled apron is connected to the dress and ties in the back, making it completely adjustable. the elastic neck provides comfort and easy on/off. i hope that this little girl loves the dress. mine certainly did. luckily matilda is around the same age so she served as my fit model!

i realize that today is the fourth, but this was the third in a nutshell. matilda is obsessed with climbing in baskets. she loves the towel basket in our bathroom (as seen here) she love the laundry basket, the toy basket in her room. basically if it resembles a basket... she's in it.

my heart was heavy on may 3rd. i spent moments throughout the day offering up prayers for some really wonderful people going through something that no one should have to. their baby was airlifted to a hospital shortly after he was born with complications. i have not heard if there has been an update because i'm too worried to check. breaks my heart. it also makes me stop and take in how incredibly blessed we are to have a healthy child. it's not a given, but a true deep blessing. thank you God.

i've also felt so strangely about all of the news about the death of one of the biggest enemies that i think we've ever faced as a country. the verminous hatred and dancing in the streets just reminds me of how bad that looks when we see other countries celebrating deaths of americans. hate does not overcome hate.

in other news i've been working hard at getting tiny fete up and running. i feel really excited about a fresh start. it feels good. i still have so much to do and told everyone a bit on the early side (hello no business cards), but that's how i roll...

introducing tiny fete! the name, tiny fete (a little party), really encapsulates the spirit that i try and pour in to these little creations. i am so excited to have a spot where i can share everything i'm making. i hope that you all like it and that you'll stop by from time to time...
